3 iPhone Apps for Catholics

This is a first in a 3 part series on iPhone apps for Catholics

Millions of apps tap in to the versatility of the iPhone. You can listen to the radio, read the news, play games, learn Spanish, and yes, even shoot, edit, and publish your own home videos. What about living out our Catholic faith? Yes, there’s an app for that too.

Here are three Catholic apps that can help you grow closer to God:
*****
Read the Word of God Daily
DailyGospel.org has operated for over a decade, sending the Word of God through email to over half a million people a day. Updated daily, Evangelizo (Cost: Free) expands their presence, providing easy access to daily Mass readings. Included is a reflection on the Gospel taken from our rich Catholic tradition, a profile on the saint of the day, and a variety of litanies and prayers, including the Pope’s monthly prayer intentions. With texts available in ten different languages, you can pass this app suggestion along to your friends in France, Spain, and Germany.

Look for a Mass on the go
It's happened to all of us. You're on vacation, Sunday morning comes around, and you forgot to look up the local Catholic Churches near your hotel. Instead of panicking, fire up the Mass Times (Cost: Free) app. With the ability to search for Catholic Churches near your current location or another address, you can find nearby Catholic parishes and access their Mass schedule and contact information. Make sure to call ahead or visit the parish website to double check Mass times. And to help you prepare for Mass, this app includes the daily Mass readings and a profile on the saint of the day. Even on vacation, you can be fed by the Word and the Eucharist.

Stream Catholic media
A hub for many Catholic media outlets, Catholic TV & Radio (Cost: Free) connects you to the current happenings in the Vatican, US Bishops Conference, and the world. Whether you want to catch a previously recorded program or watch/listen to the current offering, this app is great for learning about our faith, keeping up with Catholic news, or listening to the daily Mass readings. To enjoy this app to the fullest, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi – this app is very data hungry.
